A single Jonny Lockie strike was enough to get Deeping that elusive win in a game that burst into life after half-time.
The two sides were closely matched in the first period. The visitors had the best chance with a smart save from Aaron Butcher (pictured), pushing the ball away to safety.
Clay Cross were physical and smart. But just after half-time, the line was crossed. Jacob Goodley was caught around hip height by a challenge, and after giving himself some thinking time, the referee pulled out the red card.
The visitors were already a couple of defensive substitutes deep after injuries earlier on, and this handed Rangers the initiative.
Short of confidence after some bad recent results, it took Deeping some time to get a handle on their numerical advantage, but the deadlock was finally broken.
A great ball into the front post saw Jonny Lockie get in front of the defender and force the ball home before wheeling away to the celebrating fans behind that goal.
Ryan Cook and Jack Wilson had chances to double that lead before Clay Cross forced half a dozen consecutive corners. But unlike in weeks, Rangers held on.
There was great relief and a big cheer at the final whistle.
