As the fans like to sing "we've got super Aaron Butcher in goal..." and the popular gloveman showed his mettle in this game.
Belper were a really decent UCL North outfit. Pacy, strong and resilient and they played some good football in this one. This was a good point for Deeping as opposed to two dropped.
Fast out of the traps, a clumsy leg from David Burton-Jones was enough to concede an early penalty, Butch sprang to his left palming the ball away and that was as close to a goal as we came for a good twenty minutes.
As Rangers grew into the game they kept to their usual habit of rattling the upright... if only 50% of those shots over the last month had gone in eh?
It was parity at the break but Rangers had a really decent spell mid way through the second half with a frantic goal mouth scramble and dragged shot from sub Kellan Hickinson, a growing influence on this side.
But as the game wore on Belper carved a couple of decent chances themselves but found Butcher tall and strong in the home nets. This was two decent sides throwing everything at one another, but defences came out on top.
It was one for the purists rather than those who insist on goals for their entertainment. But another game without defeat and its becoming clear that this is a different Deeping side this season.
