It took around 5 minutes, a bobble and a Kyle Hibbins goal for Whittlesey for some of the nervousness of last season to be on show again for Deeping. Aaron Butcher being caught out in the dusty penalty area before Hibbins picked up the ball and slotted home.

The home side huffed and puffed at Ricky Hailstones goal but other than a flurry of corners and speculative strikes it looked like Whittlesey were going to be good for a half time lead in this pre season match.

Oleks Muzychuk had other ideas. The Ukranian took matters into his own hands after picking up the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box.

He unleashed an unstoppable rocket that went in off both bar and post and suddenly the nerves were gone. There was barely 3 minutes to go to the interval, but better was to come.

James Stainsby added a second before the whistle for half time had gone. It was harsh on the visitors to be going in behind on their first half showing, but Deeping had the air of a team just warming up.

In the second half it was the Scott Waumsley show. The ex-Whittlesey man scoring four against his former side. They were a mixture of finishes with him rounding the keeper, a towering header and a couple of close range efforts. The final of which was hotly contested by Whittlesey for offside.

The result is always secondary to the performance in pre-season. But this one despite being slow off the start line had both for Deeping ahead of the first away encounter this weeked with a visit to Pinchbeck.
