Rangers cup woe continues

Deeping Rangers failed to put the defeat at Loughborough last week behind them and conceded early in this UCL cup tie with Coventry United.

The home side started brightly but after giving the ball away in the centre of the park found the visiting left winger had his shooting boots on.

His shot across Aaron Butcher into the left hand side of the goal was a brilliant finish.

Rangers created a number of chances before getting level when a ball into the box was stabbed goalwards by Elliott Foster with the last touch off a defender.

It looked like going into the break level before Matt Sparrow received a striaght red card and within seconds of the game restarting Coventry were back in front.

The second half was played at a frantic pace despite the late season heat wave and there were numerous substitutions that broke up play.

It took Coventry until the final quarter of the game to make it 3-2 with another fine finish, before Avi Vieira gave the home fans some hope after coming on as a late substitute.

There was still time for United to seal their place in the next round with a last minute goal.

Rangers will be looking for a solution to their cup woes having exited the UCL Cup, FA Vase and FA Cup at the first time of asking.

Two more tricky looking away cup ties at Huntingdon and Barton Upon Humber lay in wait in the coming weeks.
