Set piece double enough to settle derby

Yaxley and Deeping battled out an entertaining pre-season friendly in typically windy and rainy conditions at TOOJAY's Park on Saturday.

With a large ex-Cuckoos contingent in the Rangers squad it was no surprise that a former Yaxley favourite Matt Sparrow opened the scoring against his former employers.

Barely two minutes were on the watch when he found space on the right hand edge of the 18 yard box and fired home.

The new look home side are made of a lot sterner stuff this season however, and were level soon after with a decent move being converted to make it all square.

The remainder of the first half saw the home side with a lot of possession and Rangers trying to get a foothold back in the game.

After the break, and despite a number of changes it was a similar pattern, before the introduction of Josh Sennett and Aaron Eyett increased the pace in the midfield.

A couple of set pieces from out wide were conceded by the Yaxley defence and both were punished by Ben Seymour-Shove.

The fist looped in from about 25 yards out, the second was a free kick curled in the top left hand corner.

Both were early goal of the season candidates and the remainer of the match was played out with little incident, or risk on the visitors goal.
