Jack and Arun's preview
Yaxley FC was founded in 1962 and are also known as The Cuckoos. However, the forerunner of the club, Yaxley Rovers, was formed in 1900, they were members of the first Peterborough League campaign contested in 1902. They play their games at Leading Drove a stadium with a 1,000 capacity, 150 of these are seated areas.
The Cuckoos were recently relegated to the UCL Premier Division South from the Midlands Division 1 after achieving only 6 points in their most recent campaign.
The Peterborough based side haven't gone without silverware as they’ve won a total of 5 league titles (2x Peterborough and District League Premier Division, East Anglia League and the UCL Premier Division and Division 1). The 1983/84 season was arguably the best for the club in terms of silverware. The first team won treble of the Peterborough Senior Cup, The Peterborough Premier Division, and the Hunts Senior Cup!
The Cuckoos have made a series of FA Vase attempts their best coming in the 2014/15 season in which they reached the round of 32 but suffered a 1-0 away loss to Erith and Belvedere. A tough 5-1 loss to Kettering saw them tumble out of their best FA Cup performance (2nd qualifying round). The FA Trophy first round in the 2021/22 season was their most successful run in the tournament until they dropped out after a 6-0 loss to Canvey.
One of the more famous names amongst Yaxley fans will be Daniel Cotton who currently plays for Cambridge at age 35. Cotton has recorded 335 appearances for Yaxley scoring 215 goals spanning his 8 years stay at the club (2014-22). He also played for Soham, Stamford and in the football league for Boston United.
