Rangers hit Town for five

Rangers hit Town for five

Match Scribe27 Sep 2018 - 16:35

The Clarets progressed to the Second Round of Kitman UK UCL League Knock Out Cup as they ran out comfortable winners ....

against their Division 1 hosts.

Rangers took the lead on 3 mins, Henry Dunn threaded the ball through the home back line, Danny Durkin collected, beat his opponent and drove low into the goal area where Scott Mooney had a simple tap in to find the net.

The young home team’s effort rarely threatened the Deeping goal and at the other end home skipper
Stuart Gillies kept his unit tight as Rangers toiled to break them down.

Deeping had a good opportunity when Dan Flack’s long ball was flicked on by Mooney for Durkin whose effort saw a good save from the approaching Daniel Smith,

Rangers increased their lead on 22 mins, Flack’s pass picked out Durkin on the edge of the box, a turn and side step allowed a shot that beat the dive of Smith and went inside the post.

Town were further behind on 25 mins, Dan Schiavi curled in an inviting free kick to see Mooney steer the ball past Smith from close range.

The home side could not be faulted for their endeavour, Matt Wright was doing his best to worry the visiting defenders and he nipped the ball from David Burton-Jones, a touch inside allowed sight of goal but the shot was well blocked by Luke Andersen.

A long kick from Deeping keeper Sam Vince was taken well on the chest by Cameron Johnson, his pass over the Town defensive line allowed Mooney a half chance that was wide of the target, Johnson then outpaced the defender to reach the box, his controlled attempt was just wide of the far post.

Half Time – Huntingdon Town 0 Deeping Rangers 3

Early second half pressure from the visitors saw Flack pounce on loose ball and drive from 25 yards for Smith to push away with a flying save.

Town’s Ben Keating sent in a good free kick, Gillies rose above all but only saw his header over the bar.

Smith was saving his side again when Schiavi sent a ball over the home defence, Harry Allcock tried to lob the advancing keeper who managed to get a touch on the ball to be cleared by Gillies, Schiavi then smashed a free kick against the bar from 20 yards.

Town’s cause was hampered as substitute Aaron Loveday was dismissed on 75 mins and Rangers went on to punish the 10 men with two further goals, Johnson out fought Sam Adams on the edge of the box, he wriggled his way through a couple of challenges before nudging the ball under Smith on 81 mins for 0-4.

Rangers 5th goal came 3 mins later, Schiavi found Johnson on the corner of the box, an instinctive shot arrowed into the far corner of the net.

Not a classic Deeping performance but enough to see them home against their young opponents.
