Rangers travelled to the Sir Halley Stewart looking to maintain their winning streak against a Knights side who ..

had triumphed in the reverse fixture just before Christmas.

The Clarets, without key players, gave another good performance, particularly the second half that saw them deservedly collect the three points although it relied on United’s Lee Beeson skying a penalty with 5 mins remaining.

For most of the first half the good sized crowd were given little to enthuse over.

A long cross field pass from Beeson picked out Stacey Cartwright, he drove the ball into the Rangers goal are where Harry Limb arrived to blast high of the target.

It was the visitors who saw the better chances, Michael Simpson fed Cameron Johnson, he went past Jack Smith into the box, his shot hitting home keeper Ricky Lovelace on the chest and was cleared, Dan Jarvis found space to deliver a cross into the box for Scott Mooney to head at goal but did not trouble Lovelace.

Knights Beeson collected in his own half to thrust forward, his long range effort was wide of the post and dive of Deeping custodian Lewis Elsom, Beeson’s good inswinging corner was met by Olly Maltby but the touch was feint and way off target.

Jarvis nicked the ball from Cartwright, he advanced to the edge of the box but a bobble as he shot saw it float high over, Charlie Coulson’s good pass allowed Johnson into the box, his shot being well blocked by Lovelace.

Half Time – Pinchbeck United 0 Deeping Rangers 0

The visitors started the second half with purpose, Johnson was played into the box and under pressure from Smith and Lovelace smashed his effort against the bar, Mooney’s good touch set up Jarvis whose close range attempt was just wide of the post.

A deep ball into the Knights box saw Smith head clear, Johnson smashed the volley towards the top corner for Lovelace to make a fine save to push away.

Rangers made the breakthrough on 56 mins, Dan Flack’s good ball picked out Jarvis in the box, a touch and turn allowed space to pick his spot and slam the ball into the far corner past the helpless keeper.

The home side were having no joy against the determined Rangers and were left picking up scraps, Limb’s pass allowed Charlie West a snapshot from 20 yards but it flew high over.

Deeping were getting more of the ball, Tyler Walker sent Mooney down the right, he looked to have turned away from Jason Field but the tackle ‘cleaned him out’ – how was that not a booking?

United’s Beeson sent in a good free kick to see Clarets skipper David Burton-Jones make a good interception as Maltby looked to apply a finish.

A good Rangers move saw Jarvis exchange passes with Johnson to control his low shot for the far post only for Lovelace to get down well and push away, Johnson’s corner was met by Simpson whose close range header was parried by the keeper with Mooney’s overhead attempt finding the side net.

Deeping should have had a penalty, Mooney went after a ball in the box, Smith made no attempt for the ball and floored him – the Assistant flagged for the foul but the referee was not strong enough and ignored all appeals.

With little threat from the home side they were given a penalty, Cartwright’s hopeful ball into the heart of the Deeping defence saw Luke Andersen’s touch go past Elsom, his attempt to resolve sent Beeson flying (and earned a red card for his trouble) – Beeson stepped up to blast the kick high over the bar.

Rangers deservedly kept their winning run going, and maintain second spot in the table, as they prepare for the visit of third placed, and early season title favourites, Rugby Town to the Haydon Whitham Stadium next Saturday.
