Match Scribe

Rangers surrendered their unbeaten home League record with a disjointed display that did little to entertain another good sized crowd at the Haydon Whitham Stadium.

The first half had little goal mouth action but was there was was provided by the home side, skipper David Burton-Jones seized on a loose ball to shoot only to see Swans fullback Olly Wilkinson clear off the line by the post.

A curling Dan Schiavi free kick saw Jack Cotton head goalwards but it was an easy take for Pagnell keeper Mark Osbourne, Rangers full back Tom Smith sent a ball over the top of the visitors defense for Scott Mooney to attempt a lob that had Osbourne scampering back to collect by the post.

Another home opportunity came as Schiavi’s pass allowed Charlie Coulson to advance into Pagnell’s box but the effort missed the target.

The game was settled inside 6 mins of the second half as the visitors punished the home side – a corner led to a scramble in the Deeping box as Remy Forrester and Sam O'Neill both saw efforts rebound from the posts but Luke Emery pounced to blast home from 2 yards on 47 mins.

Before Rangers could gather themselves they were 2 down on 51 mins, a long ball from the Swans defence freed Forrester in behind the Deeping defense, his cross picked out the solitary Emery who finished with aplomb from 8 yards.

As could be expected Rangers rallied but they rarely threatened the Swans goal, Burton-Jones advanced, he laid off to Henry Dunn who was wide of the target, Schiavi cut across the visitors box to see his shot clip a defender and finish in Osbourne’s hands.

Rangers were nearly punished further, Emery’s pass picked out Dom Lawless but Flack was on hand to nick the ball away and clear the danger.

Deeping’s Mooney collected a lay off from Jason Kilbride but the low drive was easy for Osbourne, Scott Coupland retrieved a deep corner kick, his lob to the far post was met by a combined Jack Cotton and Mooney but neither could get a touch.

It was the visitors who had the last two chances, Lawless capitalised on a Stainsby miskick to sww his effort wide of the far post, he was then in behind the home defense, he held of the challenge from Flack but again his shot was wide of the post.

This was a Rangers performance not reminiscent of this season – they have a week to get ready for the visit of Eynesbury which becomes a key fixture on the fight for the Runners Up position come season’s end.
