Match Scribe

For the third League visit running the Greens left the Haydon Whitham Stadium with a share of the points from a match that was evenly contested throughout.

The visitors were first to show, George Asplin swung in a cross from the touchline to find Tom Siddons whose looping header brought an acrobatic save from Richard Stainsby in the home goal.

Deeping responded, Scott Coupland played into Scott Mooney, his deft lay off allowed Charlie Coulson to shoot for Sleaford keeper Carl Stubbs to tip away with a flying save.

Siddons held off the attention of Deeping’s Tom Smith to set up Sam Greenwood to drive over the bar, Jack McMenemy nicked the ball from Luke Hunnings and advanced goal wards – his run ended by a combination of Rangers defenders, Asplin took the kick but failed to trouble Stainsby.

It was the home side who broke the deadlock on 24 mins, Jason Kilbride’s pass to Mooney was touched on to Coupland, he drew keeper Stubbs and then sidestepped to drive the ball home past the efforts of Leigh Warman on the line.

Rangers’ David Burton-Jones advanced from his own half, he fed Kilbride whose cross was met by Mooney to see the header high of the target.

Sleaford were close to an equaliser as half time approached, Joe Braithwaite’s ball into the box found Ryan Rushen, the header clipping the top of the bar.

Half Time – Deeping Rangers 1 Sleaford Town 0

The Greens started the second period on the search of the leveller, skipper Jack Pemberton struck a loose clearance ball goal wards only to hit team mate Braithwaite and out of play, Braithwaite’s ball into the home box caused some panic, Stainsby’s attempted clearance rebounded off a colleague for Dan Flack to clear off of the line

Deeping’s Smith fed Dan Schiavi, he got the better of Dan Worthington and curled his shot high from the corner of the box, Coulson nicked the ball from Warman to break for the visiting box but a good tackle from Charlie Ward averted the danger.

Sleaford levelled on 67 mins, Siddons tenacity saw him advance towards the Rangers box, his progress was halted by a foul – Braithwiate stepped up to drive the ball home past the helpless Stainsby from 22 yards.

Rangers Smith found Mooney in the box, he held off the attention of Ward to turn and shoot wide and, from Schiavi’s corner, Burton-Jones connected to the clearance his blast being saved by the feet of Stubbs.

The last big action of the night saw Stainsby penalised by the assistants flag - to people who saw the action from other views saw a good challenge by the keeper – a poor decision from the officials!!

A fair result overall as Rangers extended their unbeaten run to 14 games.
