Match Scribe

Deeping travelled to one of their bogey grounds and left with the 3 points having had the better of the game against a Cooks team in transition.

Early play was tentative from both sides on an afternoon that the visiting fans rarely see at Compton Park - namely a dry and sunny day with a little breeze.

The first test on goal came 20 mins in, a flowing move down the Deeping right saw Dan Flack advance and find Scott Couplnad, his neat pass set Henry Dunn into the home box where his shot just evaded the arriving Dan Schiavi and the far post, Dunn collected 25 yards out, took a touch inside and shot just too high.

Rangers were having the better of things, Scott Mooney burst into the home box to pull back where Coupland scuffed his shot.

The home side showed glimpses, Rhys Taylor flicked into the path of Luke Emery in the Deeping area only for Flack to halt the threat with a well timed challenge.

Claret’s keeper Richard Stainsby’s free kick was touched on by Mooney to find Coupland, his shot on the turn clipping the foot of the post while Cogenhoe’s best effort came when Ash Clamp’s curling ball was met by Matt Long but the header was off target.

Half Time – Cogenhoe United 0 Deeping Rangers 0

It was the home side who started the secod period brighter, Long’s run into the Deeping box was only halted by a fine tackle from Jonny Clay, Emery collected a clearance and his shot on the turn failed to trouble Stainsby.

Rangers started to reassert themselves, Mooney was clattered on half way/touchline by Jacob Gartland (when he would have a free run at goal) - another day it would have been yellow but Referee Mihalache was starting to give some strange decisions (for and against both sides).

A Schiavi free kick had home keeper Rhys Redding at full stretch to scramble the ball away but he was beaten on 61 mins – Dunn collected Tom Smith’s throw in, a dummy and turn to cross to the far post where Scott Coupland arrived to steer the ball past Redding.

Deeping were now dominant and they increased their lead on 68 mins with a super goal, a Cooks clearance was collected by David Burton-Jones, he advanced to find Coupland, his back heel touch returned the ball into the path of Burton-Jones who drew the keeper before crossing to find Scott Mooney to touch home into the empty net

Cogenhoe showed spirit as they tried to get back itno the game, Clamp flashed a shot over the bar and home skipper Luke Stone also curled a shot too high.

A swift Deeping break saw Schiavi’s run ended by a good challenge from Gartland on half way, Charlie Coulson sent Dunn free, his pull back was met by Mooney with the shot just wide of the far post.

Another win for Rangers to make it 5 League wins on the bounce.
