Rangers dump Poachers out of FA Cup

Match Scribe17 Aug 2015 - 19:47

This FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie saw table topping Boston demolished in 4 first half minutes as Rangers’ clinical finishing .....

turned the game in their favour.

Deeping started brightly and Billy Oliver collected and smashed a shot from 25 yards that had visiting keeper scrambling as the ball crashed against the cross bar/post junction.

The Poachers hit back quickly and Arron Eyett’s through ball found ex Ranger Alex Beck who controlled and shot goalwards that Danny Bircham saved well.

At the other end Nick Jackson blocked well as Scott Mooney was about to shoot.

The match was a little tentative from both sides but it was Rangers who made the break through on 16 mins – Fraser Sturgess fed Dan Flack down the right and his cross found the approaching Billy Oliver to head into the far corner past the helpless James Doughty.

Rangers almost doubled their lead when a good move down the right saw Matt Porter cross to find Scott Coupland in the box, his jinx found space only to see his left foot shot hit the side net.

The Poachers had chances, a Craig Parker through ball was almost reached by Matt Kennedy and Beck’s fine touch created space only to see his shot well saved by Bircham – Beck the outwitted the home defence along the goal line only to see his pass hit a Rangers defender and in to the hands of Bircham.

Boston were made to pay for these missed chances when Rangers scored three goals in four minutes.

Sturgess’ corner was flicked on by Ben Lewis where Oliver shot goalwards for Scott Mooney to apply the finishing touch (2-0 – 32 mins)

Before Town could recover Scott Coupland had added two more goals in 35 and 36 mind – Sturgess saw his shot rebound from the post where Coupland reacted the quickest to touch home (3-0) and Coupland then held off the Boston defence to control and blast past Doughty for 4-0.

Boston had a chance as half approached, a ball over the top saw Parker into the home box where he claimed to be clipped by Bircham but the referee did not agree and Jack Cotton was on hand to clear.

Half Time – Deeping Rangers 4 Boston Town 0

Boston Manager Mark Angel made changes at half time in an attempt to get his side back into the game and the visitors put some pressure on the home side but it was Rangers who increased their lead on 52 mins. Mooney won the ball in his own half, a good ball sent Coupland free down the left, his cross field ball found Dan Flack down the right who drove the ball into the far corner despite the full length dive from Doughty.

Town pulled a goal back a minute past the hour, Matt Kennedy picked up the ball wide right, cut inside and fired a 30 yard into the far corner beyond the full stretched Bircham.

Oliver’s clever dink ball freed Mooney down the right to see his shot flash across the face of the goal but wide of the far post.

The Poachers Kennedy had another attempt wide and sub Jack Wightwick’s through ball just evaded Eyett on the edge of the box as they had one of their better spells.

Deeping completed the scoring on 74 mins, Mooney challenged Town’s Michael Wood and the ball was collected by Scott Coupland who outpaced the visitors defence a slotted past the advancing Doughty from the edge of box to complete his hat trick.

Rangers now face another home tie v Dereham Town on August 29th ko 3.00 pm.
