Played on a hard pitch, the ball was bouncing around and wind blowing down the pitch, this was not a game for the purists.
Deeping took the lead on 7 mins. A Scott Ginty from the left was missed by the visiting keeper Alex Brown for the ball to hit the advancing Joe Braithwaite with the touch finding the unguarded net.
The shook the visiting defence and Rangers almost captilised when David Burton-Jones released Jordan Avis down the right, his cross to the far post was just out of the reach of the approaching Ben Lewis.
Another long ball into the visitors box saw after the nervous Brown juggle and lose the ball to Adam Scotcher whose shot was blocked by Brown and cleared out of danger.
Deeping were dominant, Dan Flack sent Avis clear, he held off a challenge from Gee Mailancol to cross to the far post where Scotcher miskicked, his second touch set up Charlie Coulson who put his effort wide.
At the other end a harsh free kick against Spencer Tinkler saw Town’s Dan Barker strike his free kick against the wall with the ball falling for Joe Bennett whose effort was well blocked by Tom Smith.
Rangers Braithwaite almost doubled the advantage when he narrowly missed getting a touch on Ginty’s free kick that went through the gaggle in the box.
Another good chance came as Tinkler’s deep free kick was met at the back post by Braithwaite who headed back across goal where Burton-Jones was unable to get a touch.
After a shaky start visiting custodian Brown started to thwart the home side, a bouncing ball beat Louie Medwynter for Scotcher to pounce to see his lob just low enough for Brown to head clear, Brown the saved well from Smith and the follow up tip over from Lewis’s drive.
Ginty was next to see his effort saved by Brown and Brown’s best save came after a good home attack saw Avis drive at the Cromwellians to set up Smith to drive goal wards where a deflection looked to be finding the net until Brown changed direction of movement to tip away.
Good patient play from Deeping allowed a Scotcher chance but a point blank save from Brown snuffed out the danger and Brown was again the saviour of his side when he saved from Lewis.

The visitors had their first real chance on the resumption when a bounce over the home defence fell for Levi Wright who saw his lobbed effort beat the advancing Danny Bircham and the bar.
Another Cromwellians opportunity came as Rangers failed to clear and the ball was collected by Barker to cross for sub Chris Jones to head just too high.
Deeping’s Ginty played a cross field ball to free Avis, he did well to get into the box where Brown was on hand to close down and save.
Play was getting scrappy and goalmouth action was becoming infrequent, a long Town clearance found Wright chasing and his attempted lob saw Bircham head clear and his cap did not even move.
Rangers doubled their advantage on 63 mins - Smith won the ball outside his own box, advanced and sent a defence splitting pass that was collected by Jezz Goldson-Williams who took a touch and then slotted past the approaching Brown from 20 yards
Brown again thwarted Deeping when Burton-Jones met Mohammed Hamid’s corner only to see his downward header tipped away by the keeper.
A rare threat from the visitors came when Andrew Buckle’s inswinging kick saw Braithwatie clear well under pressure, Wright then wriggled in the box to turn and bring a good save from Bircham
Ranger’s last chance came as Hamid controlled pass allowed Goldson-Williams to use his pace only to blast high and wide.
