Match Scribe

Rangers secured their first win at Jubilee Park as the home side suffered a display that would not be recognised by their faithful ......

and saw Deeping halt a run of adverse results.

The game started brightly and exchanges did not give a taste of what was to come.

Two pieces of action had the Deeping fans anticipating another refereeing performance of leniency as both Charlie Coulson and Tom Smith were in full flow when opponents ended their progress with over robust challenges that would normally have resulted in yellow cards.

Rangers’ Joe Braithwaite’s free kick found Mohammed Hamid in behind the home defence only to see his free header tipped over by Dan George in the Cromwellians goal however Hamid and Deeping did not have to wait too long to make the breakthrough.

On 15 mins Mohammed Hamid collected a pass from Jordan Avis to find himself in the home box, some trickery to get through three challenges left him with sight of goal and he coolly slid the ball under the approaching George to give Rangers the lead.

Before Huntingdon could settle they found themselves further behind on 18 mins – Ben Lewis played the ball over the home defence to find Mohammed Hamid clear in the box and he shot past the helpless George for 0-2.

The Cromwellians rallied, Dan Barber got to the goalline to pull back to Mark Paul who saw his curling effort just beat the bar at the far post.

Hamid was proving elusive for the home defence and when Andres Pantioga missed his header Hamid was in again but his cross towards Jezz Goldon Williams was cut out by the retreating Pantioga.

With the half hour approaching Rangers skipper David Burton-Jones extended the visitor’s lead – he was allowed time and space to take Spencer Tinkler’s deep free kick on his chest, and although the control allowed the ball to get away from him he reacted quicker than the home defense to push the ball home.

Huntingdon had a great opportunity to get back in the contest when Barber was played through by Ben Colmer but the presence of Braithwaite and Dan Flack and the approaching Dan Bircham saw Barber pull his shot wide.

Another half chance saw Joe Bennett get to the goal line and pull back but he only found Flack who scrambled the ball away.
The home sides chances received another set back as Luke Kennedy’s high challenge on Lewis saw the referee brandish a red card.

Home player Chris Jones nipped the ball from Braithwaite on the edge of the box but his touch was heavy and the ball was collected by Bircham.

With additional time being played Deeping scored again – Jezz Goldson-Williams collected the ball on half way, passed to Coulson and the return pass saw the home defence evaporate leaving Goldson-Williams to advance into the box unchallenged and smash home past the stranded George.

Half Time – Huntingdon Town 0 Deeping Rangers 4

Rangers completed their scoring on 48 mins – a Hamid corner, along the goalline, was touched on by Goldson-Williams where David Burton-Jones was on hand to steer the ball home.

Although Deeping were having the better of dominance the home side were showing plenty of spirit and scored a consolation on 61 mins – full back Ben Colmer collected out wide, cut inside across the 18 yard line and unleashed a left foot drive past the outstretched dive of Bircham.

Deeping's Hamid won the ball and his pass freed Goldon-Williams to run at the home defence where his run was halted by a challenge from Dan Newman. Goldson-Williams took the kick himself but did not trouble George and Goldson-Williams should have added to the Rangers tally when debutant Liam Tunstall played him into the box but the shot was weak.

The game became scrappy and few chances were seen although Deeping’s Smith found himself in the home box, turned and shot right footed that was easily taken by George.
