Beck double tops The Arrows

Match Scribe9 Oct 2013 - 17:54

Rangers found Harrowby a team seemingly smarting from their League Knock Out Cup reversal to them ....

and were under the 'cosh' from the kick as the visitors started very brightly.

Luke Shaw was released through the centre of the home defence and was only thwarted by a good challenge from home defender Simon Ahston, Shaw was then fouled by a combination of brethren David Burton-Jones and Matty Simspon and Scott Webb saw his free kick thunder against the cross bar.

Although it was mainly the away side having the control it was Deeping who took the lead on 10 minutes - good pressure in midfield saw Harrowby forced towards rheir own goal and defender Jack Whyley's back pass to keeper Jack Drury was intercepted by Alex Beck who rounded Drury to slot home for 1-0.

Mitch Griffiths then had a strong run down the right where a corner resulted - from the Scott Ginty corner Ashton's header was pushed out by Drury to Ondre Odain who saw his shot blocked on the line by a visiting defender to be cleared from danger and Burton-Jones then saw a well struck free kick deflected just wide of the post as Ranger tried to take control.

Poor forward challenges allowed Harrowby's Luke Perbedy to emerge with the ball and find Craig Wilson who swiftly found Scott Webb clear on the left, as he entered the corner of the Deeping box he fired a shot into the far corner past a helpless James Doughty for the equaliser (1-1)

This encouraged The Arrows and they became faster to the ball as the home side struggle do get a grip on the game.

Away skipper Simon Bolland saw an effort over the bar from a snap shot, a short corner exchange between Wilson and Webb saw Wilson hit a fierce shot goal bound that was blocked by the home defense, Webb then delivered for Sam Kirton to head wide and Peberdy's strong run to the goal line only saw his cross find Spencer Tinkler at the far post who cleared.

With half time imminent Deeping created a couple of chances, Griffiths and Tinkler worked well to get Griffiths into the visitors box but his pull back was just too far for Beck to control and his stabbed effort was easily taken by Drury and Griifths the burst down the left to cross where Craig Parker saw his header wide of the target.

Half Time - Deeping Rangers 1 Harrowby United 1

Deeping started the second with a greater determination and Odain found himself in the visitors box, wriggled free and hit a fierce shot that was well saved by Drury.
Arrows skipper Bolland show that they were still contesting and held of 2 challenges and saw his shot just wide of the post.

Rangers regained the lead on 52 minutes, Parker won the ball on the left and sent it cross field towards Mitch Griffiths, who did well to control and turned, unchallenged, and shot into the far corner. (2-1)

Griffiths then picked up the ball from Doughty and pumped it forward, Odain flicked on for Parker and Ginty to exchange passes and release Griffiths whose cross found Odain at the far post - his shot going over the bar. Griffiths and Tinkler then combined to set up Odain but he mis licked the attempt.

Harrowby had a spell on top - Bolland going close from the edge of the box, Jamie Preston then picked up the ball on half way and ran at the home defense passing to Wilson who set up Peberdy who shot off target,

The game descended into a scrappy stage as both sides became careless with their passes and conceding free kicks one of which led Rangers increasing the lead - Ginty's kick finding Ondre Odain 2 yards out and simply nodded the ball over the line on 75 minutes (3-1).

On 80 minutes the lively Lee Shaw showed good determination to get to the Rangers goal line, cut back, leaving two defenders in his wake, and slotted the ball home to give the visitors renewed hope (3-2)..

With The Arrows pushing for an equaliser they were caught out on 86 minutes - Parker was played in down the right, crossed to Alex Beck in the visitors box, who turned and fired home to finally make sure of the victory for the hosts.

Stacey Cartwright was dominant for Rangers and skipper David Burton-Jones was also a strong driving force.
