Team Sheet: Nat Manders Jones, Callum Cawthorn, Ewan McCracken, Isaac Flemming, Sam Bell, Dan Malcolmson, James Russell, George Cushen, Matt Holland. Subs : Owen Jacobs, Joe Goldmith

Result: Deeping Clarets 10 – 0 Pinchbeck

Considering the two teams met a week before this fixture and although the Clarets were victorious, we all thought this fixture would also be a close affair. Nobody expected the final outcome.

The Clarets back on their own turf and a league encounter with Pinchbeck, the team the previous week they met in the Hereward Cup.

Pinchbeck started the match and attempted to make inroads into the Clarets territory, their attack faltered when they came face to face with Dan Malcolmson in the centre of midfield for the Clarets. Dan won possession for the Clarets and released a ball wide to Sam Bell who went round one player and crossed the ball into the Pinchbeck box. It was well defended and within the first minute the Clarets won their first corner.

Again, Pinchbeck defended well and the Clarets again awarded a corner. Sam Bell delivered a sublime cross from the left corner flag for it to be met by Ewan McCracken who hit the ball to ensure that on 2 minutes, the Clarets went ahead, Clarets 1-0 up.

The game again was lining up to be a physical one as Pinchbeck’s tall players tried to force their way through the Clarets lines. The boys well-disciplined kept their shape making them difficult to break down, Matt Holland keeping them at bay down the Clarets right flank.

Callum Cawthorn and Isaac Fleming linking well to find an escape route and begin another Claret offensive. It was on 13 minutes when the Clarets forced another corner, taken on the Pinchbeck left by James Russell, the ball crossed nice and high and George Cushen (the smallest player on the pitch) rose to head the ball into the back of the net, Clarets 2-0 up.

The Clarets midfield which consisted of Dan Malcolmson, Sam Bell and Captain James Russell really started to make an impact on the game, a throw in was awarded the Clarets way, Matt Holland finding the head of George Cushen who was able to flick it on to James Russell who for his efforts was awarded a corner.

On the 18th minute Sam Bell again being able to beat one player found himself in space to cross from the left, the ball entered the box and was met by Ewan McCracken who fired home his second goal of the game, Clarets 3-0 up.
The Clarets now dominating and continuing to exploit the weaknesses down the left and doing so nearly found themselves going ahead further as James Russell narrowly missing the goal.

23 minutes in the Clarets broke from the back with the Clarets defence opening up the Pinchbeck midfield, Dan Malcolmson found himself with the ball and chipped it into the box, George Cushen controlled the pass and shot towards goal, George getting his second goal of the game, Clarets 4-0 up.

The game was getting away from Pinchbeck and although the Clarets had scored four goals by this time the Pinchbeck Goal Keeper saved their embarrassment further by having a fantastic game in front of the posts. However, the Clarets were clearly in no mood to mess around, shortly after the restart from the 4th goal George Cushen passed the ball into the path of Ewan, who without hesitation let rip with a left foot shot towards goal, the Pinchbeck keeper could not stop the ball as it stroked the back of the net, Ewan’s hat-trick and the Clarets, 5-0 up.

As half-time was beckoning the Clarets had a corner, as the ball came in the referee blew to stop play and awarded the Clarets with a penalty for a foul on Sam Bell. George Cushen now looking to secure his hat-trick stepped up and placed the ball on the penalty spot. George competently slotted the ball passed the Pinchbeck keeper into the bottom left corner of the goal, the half-time whistle blew and the Clarets went into the break 6-0 up.

The Clarets restarted the game with some changes being made Joe Goldsmith for Matt Holland, and Owen Jacobs for James Russell. Pinchbeck managed to obtain possession after a Clarets attack broke down, the ball hit forward and although initially looking dangerous, the Claret Keeper, Nat Manders-Jones, even though not having much to do was alert and quickly off his line to avert any problems.

Nat cleared the ball and it found its way to Sam Bell, it was on 40 minutes when Sam’s hard work paid off, Sam receiving the ball from Ewan McCracken cut in from the left wing and as he entered the Pinchbeck box under a challenge let rip a left foot shot, Goal, Clarets 7-0 up.

Pinchbeck continued to find themselves under pressure and it was the Clarets imposing themselves on the game forced an error by Pinchbeck on 43 minutes when Sam Bell hit another shot towards goal, this time hitting the upright, on the rebound the Clarets were the first to react as Ewan McCracken hit the ball into the back of the net, the 4th goal for Ewan, the Clarets 8-0 up.

Pinchbeck rarely troubled the Clarets defence, allowing them to condense the game into the Pinchbeck half, Callum Cawthorn, Joe Goldsmith and Isaac Fleming all making penetrating passes into the midfield that just cut up the Pinchbeck defence, and again the Pinchbeck keeper at their rescue. It was on the 50th minute that Dan Malcolmson found himself on the end of a pass from the Clarets defence that gave him space to line up a shot that was bound for goal, unfortunately on this occasion the Pinchbeck keeper met the shot to stop the Clarets going further ahead.

It was two minutes later, on 52 minutes, that Dan did find himself in the right place, receiving the ball from Owen and Dan perfectly placed, hit the ball, this time it was unstoppable, Dan gets his just rewards, a superb goal, Clarets 9-0 up.

The Clarets hadn’t finished, a few more changes were made towards the later stages of the game, George Cushen to the right wing, James Russell on for Ewan McCracken and Matt Holland on for Isaac Fleming. The changes did not interrupt the momentum of the Clarets, in fact on 65 minutes Sam Bell on the left made a defence splitting pass which was met by Owen Jacobs who struck a left foot shot inside the right upright, keeping his goal a game tally going and now Clarets 10-0 up.

The Clarets with seconds left ran out the game well in control and as the referee blew the final whistle, cheers from parents, players and Coach’s celebrated a fantastic result, ending with the Clarets second 10-0 win of the season.

Man of the Match on this occasion was jointly awarded to Sam Bell & Dan Malcolmson.
