Result: Pinchbeck 1 – 2 Deeping Clarets

In the Hereward Cup, the Clarets faced a trick away fixture at Pincbeck. The two team had never met each other before now.
The Clarets travelled up the A151 to face what they knew to be a physical team, not only in their style of play but also in the stature of the players. Nobody really had a feeling of which way this game was going to go.
The support from parents on the day was fantastic, to the game.
The Clarets started the game and immediately awarded with a corner, taken by Ewan McCracken and well defended by the Pinchbeck defence. It wasn’t long before the Clarets won back possession and the ball laid off to James Russell who, with his right foot, shot and forced a fantastic save, by tipping the ball over the bar.
It was from that save the Clarets forced two consecutive corners, both unfortunately not giving them the rewards for their efforts so far.
It was on 6 minutes when the deadlock was broken when Pinchbeck’s super-fast forward broke through the Clarets defence and hit the ball towards goal. Against the run of play, the Clarets were 0-1 down.
The Clarets continued to pepper the Pinchbeck goal with rasping shots from Ewan McCracken and Dan Malcolmson.
It was on the 19th minute as the Clarets started another attack and after Isaac Flemming with a great pass switched play from right to left and the Clarets found themselves mid-way in the Pincbeck half, a foul was committed by Pinchbeck on Sam Bell, as the Clarets had kept possession the referee continued with the advantage, the ball came to Owen Jacob and with his left foot hit the ball, giving the Pinchbeck goal keeper no chance and the ball stroked the back of the net, scores are level 1-1.
From that moment the Clarets took control of the game, on the 22nd minute the ball came to Dan Malcolmson whose shot hit the upright.
When Pinchbeck did get a rare opportunity in the Clarets half, it was diffused by Callum Cawthorn, Isaac Fleming and Ewan McCracken.
Just before half time, on the 28th minute the Clarets were awarded a corner, taken by Sam Bell, Dan Malcolmson peeled away from his player to hit a right footed shot at goal, the ball ended up at the bottom right corner of the net 1-2 Clarets.
The referee blew for half time.
Changes were made at half time, Ewan McCracken changing position and now operating as a striker replacing Owen Jacob, bringing on Joe Goldsmith at Left Back, and a straight swap Isaac Flemming for Matt Holland.
The new boys also equipped themselves well and contained any threat during the second half, in fact Pinchbeck hardly got out of their own half. 9 minutes in the Clarets’ patience paid off as the goal opened up as George Cushen’s glancing header went inches wide of the upright, chance missed.
The Clarets kept momentum and the Pinchbeck Goal Keeper was having an outstanding game with some magnificent saves to keep their team in with a shout.
The Clarets continued peppering the Pinchbeck goal with several players, James Russell, Sam Bell, all having opportunities to extend the Clarets lead.
The game continued in the same vein throughout until the referee blew the final whistle signalling full time.
The Clarets winners 1-2 and through to the next round, to face Stanground.

Man of the Match: Isaac Flemming.
