Defeat for reserves in cup

Deeping reserves hosted Stamford Belvedere in the round of 16 county junior cup, having narrowly lost to the Bels in the league a couple of weeks ago in the league.

Deeping were looking for a better result and a place in the quarter finals.

It was a reasonably quiet first half with both teams trying stringing passes together and trying to break down the opponent's defence. On the 30th minute Stamford had a great shot saved from a tight angle as they attempted to take the lead. Just before half time Deeping had a penalty shout waved away by the referee ashome player felt he was pushed over in the box.

The 2nd half started much like the first half with alot of the play in the middle of the pitch. On the 56th minute Stamford won a free kick on the edge of the box, a great shot pass the wall and into the bottom right hand corner gave Stamford the lead. Minutes later they had a great long range shot which was well saved by the Deeping keeper. Stamford pushed for a 2nd goal that came on the 76th minute another long range shot which was pushed away by the keeper unfortunately into the path of a Stamford player who slotted it in. Deeping huffed and puffed but were unable to get back into the game as a strong Stamford side held out to progress to the quarter finals of the cup.
