Loughborough Students (the Scholars) were founded in 1920 as Loughborough College and currently sit in 3rd place compared to Rangers who are 7th.
They play their home games at the Loughborough University stadium which holds a capacity of 3,300. The Scholars are unbeaten in their last 6 with 3 draws and 3 wins which include monstrous scorelines of 9-0, 0-11 and 4-1. Rangers encountered Loughborough in the FA Vase in August which ended in a 3-6 victory to the visitors.
The scholars started to win silverware as early as 1922 winning the Northern Junior Cup and Leicestershire senior league in 1940. The university won 11 championships among other Unis in only 20 years and this earnt them acceptance into the Midland football league and in they won back to back league cups in 2011/12 and 2012/13. This being their highest ever achievement.
There have been many playing and coaching talents that have come out of Loughborough students but one that stands out is the late Bob Wilson OBE who was a Scottish goalkeeper playing in his youth at the scholars and Wolves but then went on to make 310 appearances in 9 years for Arsenal and surprisingly only 2 international caps. As an Arsenal player he won 1 First Division and 1 FA Cup.
John Duncan and FA Cup winner Lawrie Sanchez are also well connected with the club.
