Heanor Town are know as "The Lions" and were established following a meeting in the Rays Arms Hotel in 1883. They have played at the Town Ground (2,700 capacity with 150 seats) since relocating from the Sir John Warren ground in 1953.
Heanor finished 14th in the UCL Premier Div 1 becoming regulars of the league accumulating 47 points some thanks to top scorer Jamie Sleigh who scored 24 times in 35 appearances.
The Lions have also had some accomplished players and managers at the club. Sammy Crooks has to be mentioned in this list, Crooks was the manager of Heanor Town in the 1959-60 season, but it's his playing career that makes him so accomplished. He had successful spells and Derby County, scoring 111 goals in 445 appearances at the club, and also representing England at senior level, earning 26 caps and scoring 7 goals.
Heanor have achieved a level of success in the FA Cup as they reached the first round 6 times in: 1891-92, 1893-94, 1896-97, 1898-99, 1958-59 & 1963-64. Surprisingly they’ve never even qualified for the FA Trophy as their best is only the 2nd qualifying round on 4 occasions the latest in 1981-82 season. Finally, Heanor have only reached the round of 32 in the FA Vase being their best performance most recently in 2014-15 crashing out to Dunston in a 1-0 home loss.
