Goalless game to see out 2017
The Clarets failed to take full advantage of leaders Pagnell slip up at home (to Holbeach) as neither side's endeavour rarely tested the opposing keeper ...
as the sides fought out a stalemate draw.
Rangers skipper David Burton-Jones thrust forward into the visitors area, his pass picked out Scott Mooney to see his shot well defended by Peter Dearle, at the other end Adam Creaney’s cross was partially cleared where Jake Dumbleton’s first time effort was wide of the target.
A Tom Smith pass picked out Dan Schiavi on the edge of the visitors box where Town skipper Ross Harris nicked the ball away, Mooney wriggled his way through a couple of Daventry defenders in the corner to deliver a good cross where the arriving Schiavi narrowly failed to get a contact.
Town’s Sam Jackson was in behind the Rangers defence, his pull back was met by Creaney whose low drive was pulled wide of the far post, Deeping’s Smith fed Schiavi, he took the return pass to slip as he crossed and skewed it over the bar.
Last chance of the half saw Town’s Jackson win the challenge with Luke Hunnings, his pass fed Dumbleton whose shot was blocked by Dan Flack for the ball to fall for Richard Staisnby to collect.
Half Time – Deeping Rangers 0 Daventry Town 0
The second half followed a similar pattern with both sides struggling to break through the opponents defence, Mooney twisted space to send Louis Hamilton towards the visitors box, his touch took the ball through to keeper Lustin Cerga.
Daventry’s Tom McGowan was found in the home box but skied his attempt without troubling Stainsby, Schiavi was fed out wide, his low cross into the goal area just evaded the arriving Mooney at the near post.
The home side were now having the better of things, Schiavi’s cross was met by Mooney, the header bringing a tip save from Cerga, Mooney’s strength saw him past the vistors defenders to shoot high on the run and under pressure from Dearle.
Town’s Jordon Orosz raced onto a long clearance to shoot from 20 yards where Hunnings got in a good block, the final attempt saw Schiavi cut inside to shoot from 25 yards straight at Cerga.
Rangers year finished with a point at home which left them 7th in the table as New Year Celebrations were about to start.
Happy New Year to you all!.
