A much changed Clarets side entertained Ar Tarn for their customary tight tussle and ran out ...

winners thanks to taking more chances than the visitors as both defences allowed the opponents too many sights of goal.

Town’s Phil Dashit delivered an inviting corner for skipper Leo Adams to rise at the near post to head high of the target.

An Adams return ball to keeper Chris Jones was a little short, Scott Mooney closed down with Jones’ clearance hitting the Clarets player, he got control and fired at goal where the keeper gathered on the line as he retreated.

Deeping went close, Dan Jarvis supplied Mooney, his subtle touch freed Jordan Macleod, the shot being well saved by Jones, Jack Gurney’s inswinging corner saw a touch in the goal area crash the bar rebounding onto the post before being cleared.

Desborough’s Luke Stevens cut out Aaron Davies clearance, he cut inside and shot that skied over from 30 yards, a Dashit corner fizzed through the home goal area without a touch being applied and Nathanael Ansu wriggled his way in the Rangers box before being thwarted by keeper Danny Bircham’s save at his feet.

Rangers were suffering from their passes not finding their targets and they fell behind on 44 mins, a ball into the near post saw Bircham and Dan Banister try and keep it out, the ball squirmed away for Phil Bilson to run into the empty net. (0-1)

Half Time – Deeping Rangers 0 Desborough Town 1

Deeping levelled inside 2 mins of the second half, Gurney slid his pass into the path of Josh Moreman who advanced to the edge of the Ar Tarn bos before steering past Jones into the corner. (1-1 – 47 mins)

The visitors responded, Ryan Bell won well and slid a ball through the home back line, Stevens pursued, the ball being nicked away by the covering Luke Hunnings.

Town retook the lead on 54 mins, Clarets Davies misjudged the challenge, Ansu capitalised to send into the goal area where Stevens was on hand to slam home (1-2).

Rangers turn respond, Moreman collected on half way from a challenge with Adams, he thrust forward to the edge of the box before blasting at goal where a couple of Town players were on hand to block.

The Clarets second equaliser of the night came on the hour, Mooney received the ball on the edge of the box from Sam Murphy, a touch to set up the half volley on the turn and boom - into the corner past a helpless keeper. (2-2)

Deeping took the lead on 63 mins, Gurney’s corner picked out Mooney free in the goal area, his first touch hit a defender on the line but his second touch found the gap to nestle in the bottom of the net. (3-2)

Ar Tarn’s Stevens saw his shot saved by Bircham, Bircham then denied Ryan Bell after Dashit set him up.

The home side's Macleod supplied Moreman but the shot blasted wide, Moreman sent in a beautiful cross from the touchline for Tom Garrick to arrive, his powerful header bringing a fine save from Jones.

Another Town chance came as Anus escaped Rangers marking in the box, his shot being saved well by Bircham with his legs, Hunnings' clearance only found Dashit whose shot was well blocked.

Rangers added a fourth on 86 mins, Gurney’s free kick from the corner flag being met by David Burton-Jones whose header crept through the gaggle on the line to drop over the line. (4-2)

Desborough had an opportunity to reduce the arrears in the dying minutes, Lovis Martin’s free kick from 20 yards crashed into the wall, the ball being eventually cleared away.

Another game with plenty of goal mouth action that would have warmed most of the crowd on an autumnal night.
