Rangers first visit to Cropston Road was a bizarre game with a mixture of good ....

and schoolboy football that started and finished with goal flurries that left the crowd leaving in disbelief in what that had witnessed.

Deeping’s management surprised a few with a mini reorganisation of the team and before they had chance to settle the were as Nomads scored inside the first minute, Finlay Jones laid for Jack McMillan on the corner of the box, his away swinging effort sailed into the far top corner. (1-0)

Rangers were level inside 3 mins, Jack Gurney slipped a pass to Tom Garrick on the side edge of the box, he drove across the goal to find inside of the post beyond the dive of home keeper Taylor McMillan (1-1).

The visitor’s took the lead on 6 mins, full back Dan Jarvis was well advanced, he delivered an inviting cross for Scott Mooney to steer his header inside the near post off of the attempted save of the keeper (1-2).

Further chances for the Clarets saw Gurney curl a free kick just wide of the upright and Jordan Macleod’s effort pushed away by McMillan but they did increase their tally on 12 mins, a ball into the box saw a bit of a scramble and Garrick hammered home from inside the goal area. (1-3)

Another away goal came on 23 mins, Sam Murphy slipped the ball through the Anstey defence, Matt Carter collected to advance to the box before supplying to the free Mooney to apply the finish 6 yards out. (1-4)

A rare Nomads foray saw skipper Corey Armeni play Dean Hopewell free down the right, he drove in a good cross for Michael Reeve to meet but the header was straight at Deeping keeper Lewis Elsom.

Rangers went nap on 28 mins, Murphy won well on half way, he threaded a ball for Garrick to collect in behind the Anstey back line, he rounded the keeper to slide the ball home for his hat trick (1-5).

Nomads got one back on 32 mins, Jack McMillan curled his free kick to the far stick where Reeve met, his downward header brought a fine save from Elsom for Ellis Preston to smash home the rebound off the underside of the bar. (2-5).

There were further chances for both sides before the interval, Macleod chased an over the top ball, his blast from the edge of the box saw the Nomads keeper push away, at the other end Reeve saw his effort crash the post and a swift visitors break saw Jarvis advance from deep in his own half, his pass to Macleod was swiftly sent for Mooney shoot, the attempt being just wide.

Half Time – Anstey Nomads 2 Deeping Rangers 5

Rangers did not relent as the second period proceeded, Macleod intercepted a pass from Hopewell towards his keeper, the driven cross being taken by McMillen as Mooney looked to finish, Macleod did join the scoring list on 53 mins, he collected a throw in , chipped it over the defenders head on the turn before rifling inside the near post (2-6).

Anstey sub Henry Bestwick did well to get into the box, his drive for goal clipping David Burton-Jones and diverting away.

Deeping were still having the better of things, Dan Banister fed Jarvis wide, his good ball picked out Mooney in the box but the touch was just wide, Macleod exchanged passes with Garrick to set up a shot from the edge of the box that the busy McMillan pushed away well and Jarvis then saw his effort cleared off of the line.

The inevitable further Clarets goal came on 72 mins, Gurney won the ball, his pass split the home defence where Macleod collected to advance into the box before despatching past the helpless McMillan. (2-7)

Anstey went close, Jack McMillan curled in a good free kick, Preston rose with his close range header bringing a fine save from Elsom, Bestwick collected a loose Rangers pass, he supplied Reeve who saw his shot on the turn well blocked by Luke Hunnings.

Rangers added another on 82 mins, young sub Ryan Olbromski finished a fine move to slide home his first senior goal for the Club from Mooney’s pass. (2-8)

Nomads punished the Clarets with three goals in 8 mins, a ball over the top had Hunnings and Reeve challenging for the ball, Elsom came out and was in no mans land as Reeve nicked the ball before sliding into an empty net (3-8 – 85 mins).

Another was added on 89 mins, Reeve pounced on a loose ball before Carter and Hunnings, his pass allowed Jones to slam past the approaching Elsom from the edge of the box (4-8) and Nomads added a fifth on 90+3 mins when Hopewell drove home from the corner of the box to find the inside of the post for 5-8.

There was still time for Rangers to add a ninth, Jarvis slipped a ball through the Anstey defence, Macleod took in his stride before driving home from the edge of the box to complete his hat trick. (5-9)

I suspect both Management teams will have some harsh words for their defensive charges but Deeping did collect the three points and a +4 on the goal difference which I’m sure would have been acceptable prior to kick off.
