Rangers returned to their League programme following the FA Cup exploits and this below par performance was very much an ...

‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ that was seen in the victory at Sudbury

Playing against the breeze the Clarets made the perfect start and scored in 3 minutes, Dan Banister’s lob pass found Jordan Macleod in the box, his volley on the turn flew into the far corner past Adam North. (0-1)

The Cooks had a good chance when Luke Hunnings’ headed clearance skewed for Connor I'Anson to half volley bringing a fine save from Rangers custodian Lewis Elsom low on the post, another chance saw Dylan Wilson lay for Danny Mortimer to blast high from long range.

Scott Mooney’s flick allowed Banister to drive from the corner of the box, his effort was parried by North for Patryk Cichosz to clear as Dan Jarvis look to pounce and finish.

Deeping were close again, Charlie Coulson exchanged passes with Banister, his pass gave Jarvis a controlled effort that North was behind.

Cogenhoe’s Wilson got the benefit of the bounce, he advanced to the edge if the box before blasting high of the target, Michael Cirelli pounced on a loose ball in the box to hit at goal but was just wide of the post.

The Cooks levelled on 39 mins, Adam Randall sent a ball into the Clarets box, Cirelli's first effort was saved by Elsom, the ball falling for Cirelli to apply the finish (1-1)

Rangers had a couple of chances as half time approached, a ball into the heart of the home defence, North was on the edge of his box to head clear, the ball was sent goalwards by Mooney where the retreating North was able to gather, Dan Flack’s free kick saw Mooney beat the offside but his touch was not enough to get the ball over the line.

Half-time: Cogenhoe United 1 Deeping Rangers 1.

The Clarets regained the lead on 50 mins, Coulson played a great pass through the home back line for Macleod to advance to the box, a cut inside and low drive inside the near post beat the attempted save of North. (1-2), Macleod was close when his finish, after good work by Tom Garrick had supplied him, was marginally wide of the far post.

Cogenhoe turned the game on it’s head with two quick goals, a swift break down the left resulted in the ball getting to Cirelli, he laid for Wilson to blast into the corner of the net on 67 mins (2-2).

Rangers found themselves behind on 69 mins, a ball into their box had David Burton-Jones stretching to cut it out resulting in the ball falling for Owen Coles to slam home from 8 yards (3-2).

Deeping searched for the equaliser, Macleod took a good touch, turned and shot but straight at North, at the other end Cirelli collected a long ball from Cichosz, he twisted and turned but could not find space for the shot and Flack was on hand to nick away.

The visitors levelled on 83 mins, Luke Andersen’s ball into the far post saw Michael Simpson head back into middle where Garrick nipped in top head home before North could claim. (3-3)

With time almost up Macleod exchanged passes in the box, his final touch seeing the ball roll by the post,

So Rangers' disappointing League form continues and the result sees them languishing in the lower half of the league table much to the frustration of the management team.

Full time: Cogenhoe United 3 Deeping Rangers 3.
