Rangers second visit to Seargents Lawn this season resulted in another narrow win to keep second spot ....

in the final table within their control.

A typical end of season game, played in bright sunshine, this was not a game for the purists as both sides scrapped to get the advantage.

The visitors were first to threaten, Scott Mooney’s good ball over the Corinths defence saw Cameron Johnson race to the goal line, his pull back was mishit by Dan Jarvis, the ball falling for Mooney to hit goalwards to clip a defender and divert for a corner.

Charlie Coulson’s corner was met by Luke Hunnings, his flicked header fell for Jarvis to smash at the target only to see it hit a defender and loop over the bar, Mooney controlled well in the box, he laid off for Henry Dunn who lashed his shot high.

Rothwell were being kept away from the visitors box by some good defending but saw Dodzi Agbenu pounce on Tyler Walker’s clearance to smash from long range but wide of the goal.

Corinths Craig Maisiri hit a good free kick, Dan Flack made a good block with the ball falling for Agbenu, his effort skied over the frame of the goal.

A good cross field ball from Jarvis released Flack, his good delivery going through the home goal area without Dunn being able to get a touch, Walker supplied Johnson, he created space to flash an effort across the face of the goal missing at the far stick.

The Clarets made the breakthrough on 51 mins, a defence clearance over the home backline found Johnson, the ball bounced up to allow him to blast home into the far corner of the net from the corner of the box giving home keeper Adam North no chance.

Rothwell’s James Stevenson tried his luck from long range, the attempt being well wide of the far post but the home side levelled on 59 mins. A ball into the Clarets box was partially cleared where Jordan Henson drove it through the crowd into the corner of the goal from the edge of the box.

Rangers Luke Andersen sent in a good cross, North attempted to get the ball through the crowd claiming at the second attempt as Johnson looked to finish the loose ball, Andersen supplied Johnson who smashed his shot from 25 yards to see it rebound from the foot of the post.

The winning goal came from a good move from the visitors, Jarvis fed Flack wide, delivered a low drive into the goal area where North spilled and Johnson was on hand to smash home.

So another hard earned three points for Rangers to maintain the 4 point gap to Rugby with two game to go in the chase for the second spot.
