Rangers blanked out by Corinths
Despite having the majority of the play, Rangers left Seargents Lawn empty handed for the first time (on their visits) as the home side converted one of ..
very few chances (for either side) to secure the points.
The visitors saw David Burton-Jones rise to head weakly at home keeper Martyn Thorpe from Dan Schiavi’s free kick, Schiavi’s corner saw Scott Mooney miss the target with his header.
Mooney’s twist and turn allowed space for the shot that only hit a couple of Rothwell defenders and ricocheted away from the goal.
Deeping’s Henry Dunn curled in an inviting cross to the far post where Scott Coupland’s header saw Thorpe tip over.
Corinths skipper Jordan Henson dummied the free kick only for Tom Mills to drive against the Rangers wall, Dom Page hit a 30 yard dipper where Richard Stainsby tipped over from under the bar.
Home keeper Thorpe’s flying save tipped the ball away as Mooney rose at the far post to meet Charlie Coulson’s curling ball to head for the top corner.
Rothwell’s best chance saw Callum Plowright’s pass find Joe Ginns in the visitors box, his shot being well saved by Stainsby, Plowright then collected a loose ball just outside the box but blasted high over the bar.

Corinths made the decisive breakthrough on 49 mins, Tom Scarrat’s in swinging curler saw Plowright flicked his header wide of Stainsby and inside the far post.
Rangers were nearly caught again as a long clearance over the defence allowed Ginns to progress into the box where his low cross was well dealt with by Jonny Clay.
While the visitors had more of the possession they rarely looked like penetrating the home defence, a swift break saw Schiavi’s pass split the Corinths defence for Dunn to get to the goal line but the pull back evaded any team mate.
With additional time being played, Clay rose well to meet Schiavi’s corner only to head too high.
Not a good day at the office for Rangers as more points slipped away.
