Scotts lead the way in win at the Cuckoo's
Rangers travelled to In2ative Park looking to bounce back from the previous reverse and the game was virtually a repeat of last season’s fixture where the Clarets ...
raced into a lead and then had to withstand a spell of home side pressure in the second half that tested their resilience to the limit.
Deeping took a 7th minute lead, Scott Coupland sent Scott Mooney in behind the home defence, he rounded the onrushing keeper Ollie Sutton and slid the ball into the open goal from the corner of the box,
The Cuckoo’s Ollie Medwynter’s long pass sent Matt Sparrow in behind the visitors defence but the cross from the goal line evaded team mates and was cleared.
The Clarets doubled their advantage on 10 mins, Henry Dunn got to a loose ball on the edge of the box, his shot fell for Coupland to half volley past a couple of defenders on the line into the net
Home skipper Dan Cotton twisted his way into the Deeping box to rifle a shot that Richard Stainsby saved well, Sparrow dribbled his way to the box, the cross being well cleared by Dan Flack – Tom Waumsley played for Liam Hook to blaze over the bar.
Mooney got to Stainsby’s long kick and saws his speculative lob just over the corner of the goal.
Half Time – Yaxley 0 Deeping Rangers 2
The home side applied the pressure from the start of the second period, Charlie Ward rose above all to clear Cotton’s deep free kick, Cotton pounced on a loose ball to see his drive well blocked by the visitors defence
The Cuckoo’s got a goal on 64 mins, Deeping appealed for offside, Phil Stebbing didn’t wait and steered the ball past Stainsby.
Having weathered the home sides pressure Rangers regained the two goal advantage on 75 mins, Luke Avis nipped the ball away from Wayne Morris in the corner, he fed Mooney in the box where a foul sent him flying – Coupland stepped up to stroke home the penalty.
Deeping’s Michael Simpson sent Mooney in chase, he beat Stuart Wall to the ball to see his cross blocked away.
Another tough test for Rangers at In2ative Park but a much better performance saw them collect 3 points.
