Deeping lose to late goal at Ar Tarn as Turner strikes

A bitter sweet day for Rangers as they crashed to a last minute blast from ex Ranger Jason Turner yet confirmed ....

second spot in the League table as rivals Yaxley also failed to win.

This contest was not as good as the first meeting earlier in the season but saw each side endeavouring to gain the advantage – Rangers Scott Mooney won a tussle with Leo Adams but curled his shot wide of the far post.

Ar Tarn’s Turner spun in the box and shot, the ball fell for Jake Bettles to shoot where Tom Smith’s good block saved Deeping.

The home side made the breakthrough on 12 mins - Aidan Bradshaw won easily from Dan Schiavi and fed Turner in the box, his shot brought a fine low save from Richard Stainsby but the parry was smashed home by Bradshaw.

Chances came for both sides, Mooney found space to shoot bringing a flying saev from home custodian Chris Jones to tip away, at the other Turner curled an effort wide of the post.

Tom Waumsley chased down a long ball, he fed Smith who in turn played Scott Couplnad free , his cross went through the face of the home goal with a touch being applied, Mooney saw his shot deflected into the hands of Ar Tarn keeper Jones and as half time approached Coupland was played into the home box where his effort was palmed away by Jones.

The equaliser came on 59 mins, Mooney was fouled 25 yards out, Schiavi’s free kick was spilled by Jones where Mooney was on hand to pounce and stab the ball into the net.

Ar Tarn responded, Dan White’s long ball freed John Dean, he cut inside and fired goalwards to see Stainsby’s full length save thwart the danger, Bettles saw a snap shot high over the bar

Deeping’s Smith sent in a cross that bounced up for Coupland, his shot being blocked by Aaron Davies, Mooney then fed Schiavi whose effort hit Jones who collected at the 2nd attempt.

With time almost up, Mooney wriggled free and progressed along the goal line his shot being taken by Jones – Jones quickly sent the ball down the picth, Turner saw the ball bounce up and from outside of the corner of the box swung his foot to sail the ball over Stainsby and inside the far post to give Desborough the decisive goal.

So, two defeats in a week for Rangers but the result form Yaxley ensured that the records will show them as League runners up – two more league games to finish the season.
