Rangers complete home programme with a win over the Arrows
Rangers hosted the Arrows for the final home league game of the season, with a second place finish already secured, and toiled to overcome the opposition ....
but in the end ran out comfortable winners.
It was the home side who made most the running and they took the lead on 7 mins, Scott Mooney fed Tom Smith , his cross from the goal line was met by Tom Waumsley who planted his header inside the far post past the stranded Dylan McDonnell.
Mooney collected and ran at the Arrows defence, he took a return pass from Dan Schiavi to set up Scott Coupland who saw two efforts strike defenders and finally cleared, David Burton-Jones wriggled his way into the box, he found Henry Dunn who flashed a cross across the face of the goal without a touch being applied.
Deeping defender Luke Hunnings rose highest to head Schiavi’s corner goalwards that McDonnell punched away, Hunnings striking the ball on the volley that the keeper kept out with a fine save.
Rangers found the Arrows resistance hard to break down and play became to intricate with many passes not achieving their target.
The home side doubled their advantage on 35 mins, Coupland fed Smith into the vistors box, a touch and then smashed his first goal of the season between keeper and post.
A rare opportunity for the Arrows came as Tom Parker swivelled on the edge of the box to bring a fine full length save from Richard Stainsby, at the other end McDonnell got out well to smother Coupland’s advance.

The inevitable third goal came on 63 mins, Coupland played a 1-2 with Mooney to be in the box, a touch allowed space to pick his spot to claim his 41st league goal of the campaign.
Mooney was close when he latched onto a Smith pass but his shot was well saved by McDonnell.
Harrowby got a consolation goal on 74 mins, a rare mistake by Clay saw him under hit his back pass, Arrows sub Dean Michniew nipped to round Stainsby and roll the ball into the empty net.
Before they could build on that the Arrows were back to a three goal deficit, Mooney pounced on a loose ball to samsh a shot from the edge of the box past the dive of McDonnell for his 22nd league goal of the season on 75 mins.
Young Rangers sub Elliott Ramsden drove forward, played 1-2 with Coupland and shot that brought another fine save from the visiting keeper, Mooney fed Coupland whose shot rebounded from the legs of McDonnell only for Mooney to shoot high.
Ramsden then freed fellow youngster Scott Waumsley who advanced and shot but pulled it wide of the far post.
Rangers home record saw a 52 point haul – 4 drawn games and a solitary reverse – without doubt a good return for the home fans.
At the end of the game Rangers were presented with their UCL Premier Division Runners Up Medals and Pennant by League Chairman John Weekes supported by Trevor Mitchell and Cliff Mills
