DRFC Head Groundsman Dave Holmes has been recognised in The Football Association National Leagues Groundsman of The Year 2018 .....

with a Runners Up Award in the Step 5 and Step 6 section behind winner Chris White of Andover Town FC (ahead of 3rd and three commendations).

The award was presented at St Georges Park as part of the FA's recognition programme for Non League clubs.

Dave commented, "This award is accepted on behalf of the 'Friday Morning Crew (Ken Phillips, Mac Paget and Graham Phillips) who have worked hard during the season to prepare all of the pitches and allow this to happen".

This is the second time that Dave has been to the National Awards having previously been placed 3rd in 2014, so he has a target of the top prize before he passes on the tractor keys.

Club Chairman Paul Smith attended along with Dave and aside from the awards there was an interesting Q&A session with Karl Standley (Head Groundsman at Wembley Stadium), Lee Jackson (Manchester City Head Groundsman) and Gareth Lester (Ground Manager at Bury FC) where the topics even included 'fairy rings'! - the gathering also saw a demonstration of developments in line marking including a 'robot' (GPS guided) and computer guided vehicle - both way out of Dave's budget!!!

Lee and Gareth were part of the assessment panel and actually visited The Haydon Whitham Stadium.

Well done Dave, and the 'Friday Morning Crew', on this merited award!!
